Cheer Up World! Learn the Best Known Ways to Find Happiness in Your Life

by Tony McCleary

The reason why many people are mostly unhappy with their lives is a mystery that the wisest of philosophers have been trying to figure out for millennia. You can have all the money you've ever wanted, and it simply cannot buy you happiness. And yet, I've found persons begging for their daily sustenance all over the world, and they can still smile and thank you for your contribution, in spite of their misery.

Happiness is not an illusory state of mind. It is real and attainable, but sometimes it might be difficult to understand its true value. People can certainly be happy if they make-up their minds to be so, as Abraham Lincoln so aptly put it. This being true, then why do so many choose instead ways to make their lives miserable? I believe it all starts the moment you go to sleep, and it follows the minute that you wake-up.

It has been found in many studies, that whatever "mental loads" you carry with you to bed will be there waiting for you with a 'smile' early next morning. These mainly 'unwarranted concerns' cause untold misery to humans. The next day, the same things are there to "hitch-a-ride" back-and-forth to your job, school; or, if you spend your day mostly at home working, they just love to keep you company.

Summarized for you are the best ways I've found after decades of personal experience, research, travel, and having read many excellent books on self-improvement. These principles, I want to share with you so you can see that happiness is very reachable, if you just apply them to your daily life.

1) Attitude, Attitude, Attitude! Yes, your attitude is your best monitor to keep close to your heart. A great attitude applied consistently will bring more enjoyment to your life than anything else can possibly do it. Keep your attitude positive, cheerful, grateful and healthy, and life will lead you straight to happiness. The opposite, a negative attitude, will bring to you not what you want, desire, need, or wish for.

2) Control your thoughts. That is, learn to literally manage your thoughts so that they don't run 'free and loose.' And better yet, don't allow other people to control or influence your thoughts, unless it is for positive results--period! Negative, cynic and pessimistic people just 'love to bring in a crowd' to their way of thinking. Walk away from them! You have a better world to look forward to.

3) Learn to stop fearing or worrying about things or events which are simply not there, or that are even real. Replace those thoughts with courage and faith instead. Life is not easy at times, but don't make it harder on yourself. Unload those 'burdens' before you go to sleep every night. Let them go! You'll be a lot happier when you do! Tackle the legitimate concerns in your life with a fresh and restful night of sleep.

4) Love your life for whatever small or big it is. Envy no one, or possessions they might have. Some people have great wealth, but no kindness and compassion at all for other people. If you add-up all your talents, traits and virtues, you'll find that there is a "great person" there; but, first learn to appreciate yourself for who you are, and regret not what you wish you were.

5) Keep your health at all cost. The reason is because no one else will or can do it for you! "What you eat is what you are" is as true today as when those words were uttered a long time ago. A healthy and happy person will enjoy life a lot more than one who is forever 'sickly,' but does nothing about improving their health and state of fitness. Exercise and a lean diet is the solution to many of the weight problems that people have today. However, they would prefer to take a shortcut and ingest bottles of pills, plus a medley of exotic potions for faster results at the risk of damaging their health, rather than improving it.

6) Appreciate people for all that they do for you. As you extend your thankfulness, you will make them happy, and in return blessings will flow right on to your lap. Gratitude is and will always be the fountain for your happiness, above anything else.

7) Choose a hobby, a sport or an activity that makes you happy. Perhaps doing volunteer work is the thing for you. They say that happiness comes in giving.

8) Send a note to a friend once in a while to find out how they are doing. A simple handwritten letter or an email to someone saying, "I just wanted to wish you a happy day!" is a touch of kindness that is priceless.

9) Count your blessings every single day. Why every day, you ask? You do it as a reminder for what life has given to you, so you can appreciate it a little bit more, and those of others close to you with a grateful heart.

10) Laugh often and heartily, for laughter is the antidote for anger and frustration; disappointment and hurt.

It'll be a blessing of immense worth for the people that accompany you in your life's journey to find the 'radiant light of life' in you. It is the light that seems to glow on those persons who are positive-minded and grateful for their lives. Anger, bitterness, envy, resentfulness, and hatred of things and/or people will never, ever, bring happiness into your life. As much as you want to refrain from harboring these thoughts and feelings, it will also benefit you to steer away from people that do. Surround yourself preferably with noble and thankful people; and in that world, you will find the true happiness that you're seeking. My hope is that you learn and apply the principles noted above to your daily life. You'll never regret it!
